by fresh air on all four sides, are hardly necessary in this climate where windows are kept open during ten months out of the year; but electric fans and some exhaust ventilators should be provided in the Post Office sorting rooms. The heating of all offices occupied by Europeans is provided for by open fire places; but heating by Hotwater pipes might with advantage be extended to the larger rooms designed for occupation by the general office staffs.

With regard to the question of cost it is believed that the buildings can be built as shown on plans for the sum named in the conditions viz:- $500,000; but the extent to which stone could be used, and steel construction, and the better classes of wood, made use of would have to depend in great measure upon the local conditions of building prices at the time when tenders are invited. According to present information the estimate is made up as follows:-
